The Health Technician is assigned to the Acute Hospital Services Service Line and is responsible for patient related activities which include, medical record management, scheduling of all patients to various clinics, appointments and/or tests, information activities, routing control and other related services for patients. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/30/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to : Providing support to medical personnel by setting up equipment for medical procedures in rehabilitation clinics, explain medical procedures, operate and maintain medical instruments and equipment, applies quality control and quality assurance in clinic and patient area. Performs diagnostics support duties, i.e. arrange and pass medical instruments, monitor patient for adverse reactions. NOTE: Evidence of specialized experience must be supported by detailed documentation of duties performed in positions held. Please provide such documentation on resume. OR, Substitution of Education: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required for a GS-6 surgical technician ONLY in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. NOTE: TRANSCRIPT(S) MUST BE SUBMITTED IF EDUCATION IS BEING USED TO QUALIFY OR Combination of Experience and Education: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-06 grade level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required graduate education you have earned. Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Duties include but may not be limited to the following: Functions as a primary scrub person responsible for handling surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment during all surgical procedures. Prepares, organizes, and maintains highly complex sterile surgical set-ups. Utilizes universal precautions and follows all infection control policies and procedures when handling specimens, supplies and equipment. Collaborates with the RN and other staff members to perform sponge and instrument counts to for the accountability. Responsible for surgical team to develop and implement a surgical procedure plan of care to assure all necessary surgical supplies, instruments and equipment are available prior to the surgical procedure. Inspects and performs all recommended tests to assure that equipment meets operational, sterilization and/or cleanliness requirements. Assumes responsibility for the accountability of all surgical instruments and equipment during the surgical procedure; functions as a second circulator for complex surgical procedures. Assists in training residents, medical students, nursing students, operating room technology students, and new OR staff in the operation of equipment, sterile technique, handling of instruments, and OR procedures to include the scrub role in surgical procedures. Performs other duties as directed/assigned by supervisor. Work Schedule: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM - ON CALL after 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday and Weekend Calls. There are extensive periods of regular and recurring standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, reaching, and prolonged stretching to provide easy accessibility of instruments and supplies for the surgeon. Incumbent must be dexterous in passing instruments to surgeons without compromising principles of aseptic technique and in a manner requiring little or no effort from the surgeon."]
