Assistant Nurse Manager – Duke University Hospital – CT Step Down Unit, 3100

Job Summary:
The Assistant Nurse Manager is a role developed to work in coordination with the nursing leadership in an assigned unit or department to ensure the work is accomplished effectively. The Assistant Nurse Manager is the first line support for staff, physicians and other related providers on service- specific clinical issues. The Assistant Nurse Manager is generally a long-term role, requiring clinical and interpersonal skills. The Assistant Nurse Manager collaborates with the manager on clinical and non-clinical issues (employee relations, individual behaviors, physician relationships, etc.). The Assistant Nurse Manager is the support for the unit/department/service when the manager is unavailable. The Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible for supervising, directing, coaching and mentoring their assigned core group of staff.
Unit Summary
The CT Surgery Step Down 3100 unit is designed to provide care for adult patients greater than 14 years old who need less monitoring than those in the Intensive Care Unit, but still require more monitoring than a routine floor. This area cares for complex patients with diagnoses such as pre/post cardiothoracic surgery including but not limited to coronary artery bypass grafts, heart valve repair and replacements, aortic and aneurysm repairs, wedge resections, lobectomies, pneumonectomies', heart transplants, lung transplants, and ventricular assist devices.
Work Hours & Shifts
Full Time: Schedule is 40 hours per week and is a combination of administrative time and clinical time which would include flexible self scheduled days, evenings, nights and weekends to be determined by the needs of the unit.
Knowledge, Skills, Education, and Experience Required:
- Requires three years of nursing experience.
- BSN required.
Licensure, Certification or Registration Required:
- Current registration with North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse OR current compact RN licensure to practice in the state of North Carolina required.
- BLS (or higher) certification required.
- Professional specialty certification (required within 2 years of hire)
