This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Learn more The incumbent practices as a registered nurse in the Urology clinic in the Nursing Section of Patient Care Service within the Detroit V AMC. The RN is primarily accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating direct and indirect nursing care, and identifying outcomes for patients in the outpatient clinical setting. He/She is responsible for coordinating patient care delivery to ensure quality care according to established standards of care/practice, policy and procedure. The urology clinic RN coordinator demonstrates technical and operational knowledge and is able to apply these skills in the clinical setting. The nurse operates specialized therapeutic and life support equipment. As the urology clinic coordinator the nurse is accountable for facilitating patient access and team productivity. The nurse triages patients, reviews consults and schedules patients in the clinic, coordinates surgical boarding schedule with the operating room, ensures that all appropriate surgical equipment, instruments, implants and supplies will be available for each surgical case, facilitates the schedule for diagnostic test. Collaborates with providers and ancillary services. Provides patient/family teaching as appropriate. Analyzes and upgrades patient care through quality improvement activities. Monitors activities occurring within the service. Strives to maintain clinical competencies through continuous study, in-services and participation in obtaining continuing education units. Based on education and experience, may be assigned responsibilities as preceptor. Effectively functioning as a team leader, or in other leadership role that guides and directs others who provides. Accurately documents in the medical record patient findings, assessments, and care provided. Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own nursing judgments and actions. Check supply levels and equipment Effectively directs the flow of patient care. Consults with other disciplines for pre-operative /post-operatively care. Demonstrates leadership with compliance with infection control practices, such as hand washing and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment. Specific responsibilities relative to scheduling include the following scheduling (appointment) practices: patient consult origination, consult action (completion, discontinues, and cancels) and other info comments. Will be crossed trained to work in other clinical areas within surgery services to accommodate unplanned leave and vacation schedules.
