Perform a variety of routine and advanced patient care tasks under thedirection of nursing staff to assist medical and nu rsing personnel inthe examination, treatment, and care of patients.Perf orm a variety ofclerical and technical tasks as assigned.
Wo rk Performed
Perform a variety of roles and responsibilities whic h may include thefollowing:Participate in patient care interventions and personal care proceduresfor patients. Perform approved dressings and wo und care for NCA level;participate in nutritional activities; assist wit h personal hygiene;assist with ambulation; assist with bowel and bladder elimination;provide such additional care as required to meet the person al needs andcomfort of assigned patients.Perform CPR.Function as patient attendant for patients who have been identified ashigh risk for injury or suicide.Prepare patients, equipment and supplies for specific procedu res andprovide manual assistance as required.Collect, deliver and conduc t routine tests on patient specimens.Escort or transport patients that d o not require any hemodynamicmonitoring.Clean assigned area; stock and r eplenish supplies and equipment asrequired.Maintain readiness of HAZMAT Room. Provide assistance during hazmatdecontamination procedures.Perform a variety of EKG technician tasks as required, to include:routine and S TAT EKGs, order verification and electronic transmission ofEKGs, accommo dation of special EKG requests, i.e., with or withoutmagnet or right sid ed EKG tracings, the stocking and maintenance of EKGmachines, and the re trieval of old EKGs from the Heart Station.Perform a variety of Health U nit Coordinator (EDUC) tasks. Tasks mightinclude, but are not limited to , operate and trouble-shoot officeequipment; maintain organization of th e assigned desk; manage labspecimens and orders; enter orders into the c omputer; answer thetelephone and/or patient signals. In addition, assist with patientregistration, admission, transfer and discharge.Perform adu lt,isolated venipuncture for collection of routine bloodspecimens and b lood cultures.Perform other related duties incidental to the work descri bed herein.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Heavy lif ting and the ability to transport stretcher and wheelchairpatients to va rious hospital locations are required.This person must be able to provid e care and services to all patientsfrom birth to the elderly.The must ha ve excellent prioritization skills in addition to their basicknowledge a ndskills.They must be able to work in a fast-paced unpredictable enviro nmentunder very stressful conditions.They must be able to be trained in all aspects of hazmat decontaminationprocedures.This person must be very goal-directed with a great deal of initiativesince they function at a v ery independent level within the EmergencyDepartment.They must demonstra te competency validation in skills and knowledge forperformance of roles and responsibilities.
Work requires graduation from an accredited high school or a GED. Work requires the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Successful completion of the NCA I training as defined by the Division of Facility Services in the State of North Carolina or North Carolina Advanced-EMT Basic training.
One year of related health care experience as an NCA, ED Tech, EMT, or equivalent, and must be able to perform EKG.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Current minimum listing as an NCA I with the Division of Facility Services or current minimum certification credential as Advanced EMT EMT-B with no substantiated findings of abuse, fraud, neglect or misappropriation of property. BLS Required
