This LPN vacancy is for the Spinal Cord Injury/Disorders (SCI/D) unit at the Syracuse VAMC, Syracuse, N.Y. Services on this unit are designed to support, promote, and maintain the health, independence, quality of life and productivity of individuals with SCI/D throughout their lives. Patients on this challenging specialty bed unit may require Central/PICC IV lines, and bowel/bladder and wound care. Nursing experience encompasses quadriplegia, paraplegia, surgery, new injury rehabilitation, etc., to meet the needs of our complex patients. Duties include: Delivers care to the patient in respect, non-judgmental manner and according to patient's plan of care. Sets limits within the nurse/patient relationship which are clearly defined. Recognizes significant changes in patient's condition/response to the Registered Nurse. Accurately documents and retrieves patient information utilizing CPRS. Performs aspects of patient education as directed (i.e., health promotion, glucometer, B/P monitoring, etc.). Maintains a safe/clean work environment. Adheres to standards or practice and safe technique in preparation and administration of medicine. Observes patient for adverse effect from medication and reports to the RN Care Manager. Employs appropriate lifting/moving/transfer techniques/devices. Possesses knowledge of proper handling and pre-cleaning of reusable medical equipment. Works effectively with patients/families/visitors/co-workers/ and/or members of the other services to promote positive interactions. Other duties, as assigned.
